Tell the Senate not to weaken bans on animal testing

Your help is urgently needed to remove a dangerous provision that has been added to S.4348, the Food and Drug Administration Safety and Landmark Advancements Act (FDASLA).

If not withdrawn, this provision could erase state laws that prohibit the sale of cosmetics tested on animals. CAARE is urging our supporters to contact the Senate to remove this language from the bill.

Please contact your U.S. Senators immediately to ask them to oppose Sec. 614 in S.4348.

Sec. 614 could allow the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to override existing laws in states that have banned the sale of animal-tested cosmetics, such as California, Maryland, New Jersey and others.crulety_free_emblem.jpg

The provision will not only invalidate the existing laws but could prevent other states from enacting similar legislation.

This would be a huge step backwards for ending cosmetics tests on animals and must not happen.

It’s important to note that the FDA Modernization Act, which CAARE is supporting, is not affected by the new cosmetics section of S. 4348 and remains intact. The FDA Modernization Act allows for the use of non-animal test methods for evaluating the safety and efficacy of new drugs and eliminates the FDA’s absolute requirement that animal tests be used by drug developers.

Contact your Senators today to remove this dangerous provision and thank you for speaking out for animals suffering in laboratories!
