FDA Modernization Act to be heard at Energy & Commerce committee hearing

The FDA Modernization Act of 2021 is advancing through Congress and we have an exciting opportunity to change the laws requiring FDA animal testing.

The bipartisan bill currently has 60 co-sponsors in the House and is being heard in the House Energy and Commerce Committee on Thursday, March 17.

Now is the time to contact your legislators in Congress to support the bill, even if you have contacted them about this in the past.

The FDA Modernization Act (H.R. 2565 and S. 2952) would end the U.S Food and Drug Agency’s mandate requiring that animal tests be done before a potential drug enters human clinical trials.

If passed, the bill will not end FDA animal testing, but it will allow those companies that are using cutting-edge, non-animal methods like computer modeling, organs-on-chips, organoids and more, to submit their drugs for FDA approval without animal testing.

It will be a huge step forward because more and more modern biotech firms are emerging that are using non-animal methods. But current law requires that even those that are developed completely without animals, must then be tested on animals to comply with FDA regulations, causing suffering and death for untold thousands of mice, rabbits, rats, dogs and primates.

If this law passes, that will no longer be the case and we can open the door to developing drugs entirely without animal testing.

We need to get as much support as possible for the bill, so please send your letter today.

Passing this legislation will be a monumental change to an archaic law mandating animal testing when we have the technology to replace animals.

Thank you so much for taking action to end cruel drug testing on animals.
